Wynk

SHR Justamere Wynken Blynken WC

Dual-Purpose Labrador

Wynk is a dual-purpose Lab that loves to retrieve. It’s almost an obsession. Whether birds, bumpers, or balls, she loves them all. She also has the correct structure as described in the breed standard. Not slender with a roached back and thin tail, nor short and stocky with a head that looks like a Rottweiler.

Many fanciers seek a revival of this type of Lab that came to America in the early 20th century. At that time it was not unusual for a dog to compete successfully in both the field and the show ring.

About Wynk

Wondering where Wynk got her name? She’s named for an old nursery rhyme called Wynken Blynken and Nod. Check it out here.

Dual-purpose Lab: success in both show and field

Wynk’s first time in the show ring. She moved out well and showed like a trooper. Wynk placed 4th in a nice class of puppies under breeder-judge Gunella Ek.

In the field…

Black Lab retrieving a bird in the field

Earning her Working Certificate, Wynk started with one mark on land – near the top of a little hill – no problem. But there was something new, something she’d never seen before. A blind out in the field, hiding people.

‘What’s that?’ she asked. So she had to take a peek before bringing her bird back to mom. She delivered to hand and the land portion was completed!

After a bit, we worked the water portion – back to back retrieves in a pond enclosed by tall vegetation. Another new experience for her. Out and back, delivered to hand for each mark. I’m quite proud of my little Lab!

I’d only planned to run Tisket in the hunt test, but Wynk kept telling me, “Put me in coach. I’m ready to play.”

So I did and she smoked it! She got her first pass at the Platte Valley HRC hunt test in Snyder, CO the same day her mom finished her title.

Can you tell she loves working?

“No, mom, I don’t want to go out after all.”
